Graphical adventures are fun to play, but I have always been fond of text games, where you have to use your imagination, and your intelligence, to solve problems and puzzles. There is a whole sub-culture of dedicated authors and players out there. One of the benefits of IF is that the technical requirements are not too sophisticated - chances are, your computer can handle these games, as most of them can be run from Windows or DOS (or DOS from Windows). Playing interactive fiction is also a pleasant way to spend a few hours (or a few days!) in a relaxed, fun activity. While it may seem a bit complicated initially, once you are comfortable with the way IF is played, it is a snap. All of the better games come with instructions on how to play the game.

Well, the saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, therefore, a thousand and one words must be worth more than a picture - it seemed like a clever name for an Interactive Fiction web site...

Minimum Operating System: WIN 95 or Above (WIN32).

ChessWords can be downloaded at this link. The self-extracting installation  file is about 1.2 MBs in size and requires about 4.8 MBs of space on your hard drive. The program makes no changes to your registry and is self contained. You can specify the directory to which it is installed. Once installation is complete, you just go there and double-click on the program icon.

This is a "guess the chess word" game, similar to hangman, but without the hangman. Simple, yet challenging. Can you guess all 50 chess words without losing the game?
